Falcons surpass Seahawks 2-1

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Sunday, January 26, 2025)-- Albertus Magnus College overcame Salve Regina University men's ice hockey's early 1-0 lead established by Matthew Brunton in a 2-1 NEHC verdict. The Seahawks went 1-1 in the two-game series against the visiting Falcons.

History: Yesterday, men's ice hockey beat Albertus Magnus 6-5 in overtime on Mental Health Awareness Night. Hoon Kim scored the game-winning goal at 3:39 in the sudden-victory period.

NOTEWORTHY:
  • Matthew Brunton converted with 12:55 to go in the first period on a rebounded attempt by Arvega Hovsepyan. This was Brunton's ninth goal of the season, to give him 12 total points. Hovsepyan's assist moved him to 19 seasons assists and 26 points as the team leader.
  • Andrew Van Antwerp tied it up to pull Albertus even with Salve before period one ended. Falcons' Jeremy Tremblay netted his first goal of the season and second career goal in period two to advance the score to 2-1. Salve Regina saw several power play opportunities and pulled goalie Cayden Bailey from the net in the final minutes of the game, yet were unable to find the back of the net to tie it up before the clock ran out.
  • Both teams were effective in the face off circle, however the Falcons squeezed out a 40-37 advantage.
  • Bailey made 24 saves while protecting the crease. Falcons' Matt Lenz made 48 stops. Salve Regina had a consistent 16 shots on net in each period.
  • There was a total of 16 penalties. The Falcons were called for seven infractions and the Seahawks had nine.
ON THE HORIZON
Next week men's ice hockey is on the road on Friday, January 31, at 7 p.m. against Elmira College in New York.
