Seahawks hold senior day, fall to WPI in NEWMAC action

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- (Saturday, October 18, 2025)-- Jordyn Pineau scored her second goal of the season against Worcester Polytechnic Institute with eight minutes remaining in regulation, but a strong effort by the Engineers early in the contest gave WPI a 3-1 NEWMAC win on a sunny day at Gaudet Field.

Before the contest field hockey honored the class of 2026 with a senior day ceremony. Ashley Harvey, Angelina Regels, Georgia Costello, Julia Decker and Bella Gannon are all part of the graduating class.

WPI found success two minutes into the second quarter and again at the 40 minute mark. While Pineau was able to get the Seahawks on the board the Engineers sank another goal with 14 seconds to go in the game.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Records: Salve Regina (9-5, 2-4 NEWMAC), WPI (5-1, 10-4 NEWMAC)
History: Salve Regina is 1-10 all-time against WPI and 0-3 against the Engineers since joining the NEWMAC in 2023. Last year the Seahawks fell 5-1 on the road, but not without a goal from Shannon Kennedy in the second quarter.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Siany Ortez served 60 minutes in goal and made 10 saves.
  • WPI had an 8-4 penalty corner advantage.
  • The Engineers outshot the Seahawks 13-4.
  • There were no cards or ejections. 

ON THE HORIZON:
On Tuesday, October 21, at 6 p.m. field hockey will be on the road in Norton, Mass. to play Wheaton College in a NEWMAC game.
