MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- (Tuesday, October 21, 2025)-- In dramatic fashion
Angelina Regels '26 scored with 24 seconds to go in overtime to put Salve Regina University field hockey up 4-3 in NEWMAC action on Tuesday evening at Gaudet Field.
Reese Interrante scored her first collegiate goal at the 13:57 mark to get the Seahawks on the board after the Lyons were the first to snag a 1-0 lead.
Julia Decker '26 and
Elliot Lund '29 added to the count in the second and third quarters respectively. While the Seahawks were ahead 3-2 going into halftime, and they continued this lead approaching the final quarter, the Lyons took advantage of a penalty corner to tie the game 3-3 with 12 minutes in regulation. No one was able to break the tie until the 69:37 mark.
Following a penalty corner
Bella Gannon '26 sent a pass crossways to Regels on the right side inside the arc. Regels' shot sailed passed the Lyons goalie and gave the host a 4-3 sudden victory NEWMAC win.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Salve Regina 4, Wheaton 3
Records: Salve Regina (10-5, 3-4 NEWMAC), Wheaton (7-8, 3-4 NEWMAC)
History: Salve Regina now leads the Lyons 10-9 in all-time series meetings. The Seahawks have won the last nine meetings against Wheaton. Last year when Salve Regina won 6-2 five different Seahawks scored.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Salve Regina and Wheaton had equal opportunities with eight penalty corners each.
- Siany Ortez '29 totaled five saves as the Seahawks goalie.
- Salve Regina outshot Wheaton 19-9.
