Seahawks hinder Anchorwomen, 3-0

NEWPORT, R.I. -- In straight sets the Salve Regina University women's volleyball team shutout the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen 3-0 at Rodgers Recreation Center Thursday evening in a non-conference match.

Salve Regina never trailed with two decisive wins in sets one and two and a third triumph after an 18-18 tie in set three. The Seahawks held off the Anchorwomen by scoring the last seven unanswered points of the day.

History: Salve has a long-standing history against in state foe, Rhode Island College. Overall the Seahawks are 12-6 against RIC. Salve Regina has been crowned the victor in the past six encounters with the Anchorwomen.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Anouk Jansen tied her second highest kills in a match this season with 13. The last time Jansen posted 13 kills was in the Seahawks' match against Wellesley on October 4. Today Jansen posted a hitting percentage of .379.
  • As a unit Salve Regina had six service aces. Jansen totaled four aces and Lydia Daskalos had two.
  • Kate Andy provided 14 assists and Madelyn Homer had 13 digs as team leaders.
ON THE HORIZON:
Salve women's volleyball is back at Rodgers Recreation Center on Saturday, November 1, for a home tri-match. At 11 a.m. Salve Regina faces Johnson & Wales University. At 1 p.m. JWU plays Brandeis University in a neutral site match. At 3 p.m. the Seahawks go up against the Judges in the final match of the day. Before the 3 p.m. game the Seahawks will honor the class of 2026: Lauren HoyleLydia DaskalosErin Coates and Lucy Swanson.
