Seahawks succumb to Soaring Eagles, 2-0

ELMIRA, N.Y. (Friday, October 31, 2025)-- Salve Regina University women's ice hockey relented 2-0 on the road to the 2024-25 New England Hockey Conference winner, Elmira College to begin their 2025-26 slate. 

Elmira scored both of their goals in the first ten minutes with a strong showing in the first period. Salve stalled the Soaring Eagles throughout the remainder of the encounter. In the second period, both teams were evenly matched as Elmira recorded five shots to Salve's four. The Seahawks looked to convert on several offensive plays in the third period but were unable to find the back of the net.

History: Salve Regina beat Elmira twice early in the 2024-25 season with 3-1 and 1-0 victories. Riley Esposito scored the game winning goal in the second period of the 1-0 shutout. Goalie Taylor Hannafan made 75 saves across the two games. In the second round of the New England Hockey Conference Women's Championship Tournament the Seahawks were eliminated by the Soaring Eagles 4-2 which ended Salve Regina's season, but not without a historic 17-10-0 overall finish and 14-4-0 NEHC record.

NOTEWORTHY
  • Sophomore goalie Taylor Hannafan made 18 saves for the Seahawks.
  • The Soaring Eagles outshot the Seahawks 20-13. Salve Regina's game high of seven shots on net occurred in the third frame.

The Seahawks face the Soaring Eagles again tomorrow, November 1, at 3 p.m. at the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena.
