The United States Coast Guard Academy emerged with its first-ever win in Newport, 36-31, with a wild back-and-forth second half which included stopping Salve Regina on a turnover at the Bears' one-yard line after the Two-Minute Timeout.

The Seahawks opened the scoring with a 23-yard field goal from Nathan DiRado (Carver, Mass.) on their second drive of the game after taking over from a Coast Guard punt at the Bears' 35-yard line. After another Bears' punt by Lucas Hubert () at the start of the second quarter traveled 52 yards with the wind at his back, the Seahawks committed their first of four costly fumbles and Coast Guard took over at the Salve Regina 18-yard line. One play later, Sean Burns () completed a pass to Matt Labouliere () in the endzone. Caleb McClure's () kick put Coast Guard up, 7-3.

Salve Regina had positive yardage on its next three plays, but on the fourth (1st-and-10 from their 38) a lost fumble gave Coast Guard the ball again in Seahawk territory. Harrison Hensley () carried four straight times to the Seahawk one. Burns and every Bear teammate on the field got him across the goal line for a 14-3 advantage.

Jacoby Smith's (Middletown, R.I.) kickoff return of 34 yards set the Seahawks up at their own 43 for their next drive. Thomas Fallon (Freehold, N.J.) completed a 20-yard pass to Kyle Crampton (Merrimack, N.J.) and Justan Luzzi (Belleville, N.J.) gained 15 on the ground, but after a 1st-and-10 carry by Luzzi got the Seahawks to the Bears' 15-yard line, the drive stalled with three incomplete passes.

Hubert lifted a 46-yard punt to the Seahawks' two-yard line and Will Wolf () tackled Luzzi in the end zone for a two-point safety.

Trailing 16-3 entering the second half, a Fallon-to-Crampton connection gained 20 yards and Luzzi had an 11-yard burst that gave the Seahawks a 1st-and-Goal from the CGA three-yard line. Luzzi punched it in for the first of his three second-half scores. Ashton McLean (Franklin, Mass.) recovered a Bear fumble on the ensuing kickoff and Fallon found Smith at the Coast Guard two-yard line before Luzzi knocked it into the end zone to regain the lead for the Seahawks, 17-16.

Coast Guard engineered a 10-play, 75-yard drive to get back on top, culminating with a Burns strike to Broock Desta () for the final 17 yards. The presence of Smith on the return team allowed Michael Rutstein (Hudson, N.H.) to pick up a short kick and gain 15 to the Seahawk 44-yard line. With four rushes, Luzzi covered 40 of the 56 yards needed to score as his last run went 17 for the go-ahead score.

An interception by Marcues Jean-Jacques (New Canaan, Conn.) gave the Seahawks the ball on the Bears' side of midfield. Crampton had a big grab for 19 yards and Luzzi converted a 4th-and-1 for a first down at the Bears' 12-yard line. Fallon faked everybody out and executed a quarterback keeper around the left end for the Seahawks' final score, 31-23.

Coast Guard netted 71 yards on its next scoring drive in 11 plays with Burns converting a 4th-and-7 from the Seahawk 18-yard line with a strike to a leaping Hensley in the back of the end zone. The Bears went for the two-point PAT but misfired on a pass play and trailed, 31-29, with under six minutes to play.

Salve Regina had a pass completion gain a first down before the Bears stripped the ball away and two rushes by Hensley (16 and 30) vaulted Coast Guard ahead, 36-31. Heading into the wind on their final drive, Salve gained 13 yards on consecutive carries by Luzzi before Fallon found Crampton for 12 yards to midfield and the Two-Minute Timeout. Luzzi caught a screen pass in front of his sideline and sprinted 17 yards. After a Marco DiPlacido (Hudson, Mass.) seven-yard run, a pass interference penalty against Coast Guard gave Salve Regina 1st-and-Goal from the seven-yard line. Luzzi's next carry gained six yards and the extra effort to reach the end zone ended up losing possession on a fumble.
