NEWPORT, R.I. -- Salve Regina University men's basketball shot nearly 60 percent from the floor in the second half and rallied to defeat Rivier University, 75-70, in non-league action at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Thursday evening in Newport, Rhode Island.
Salve Regina (4-0) wins its first four games of the season for the first time since 2013.
There were 15 lead changes and eight ties over the 40 minutes of action.
Jack Margoupis (Sutton, Mass.) and
Izaiah Shaw-Glen (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led their respective teams with 24 points each. Seahawk senior captain
Sean Seymour (Albany, N.Y.) made 10-of-14 field goals with a 3-pointer and two free throws to finish with 23 points.
The Seahawks had a sizable advantage on the boards, out-rebounding the Raiders, 41-to-26, led by Margoupis' nine and eight defensive caroms for senior captain
Jack McMullen (East Greenwich, R.I.). McMullen had three field goals including 2-for-2 from 3-point range for 10 points.

History: These programs meet for the seventh time overall in men's basketball and first time since 1998. Salve Regina won that meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire, 84-68, for its first victory in the series.The Seahawks and Raiders first met at Rogers High School on January 12, 1994, while tonight is only the second time Rivier men's basketball comes to Newport. Salve Regina is now 2-5 in the all-time series. Last time Salve Regina started season with three consecutive victories was in 2013 (4-0) before falling at Division I Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
