Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Salve Regina improves to 5-0 with four-point win over visiting Rhode Island College

Sean Seymour leads Seahawks with 22 points in 80-76 final

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University senior captain Sean Seymour (Albany, N.Y.) scored 14 of his team-high 22 points in the first half as the Seahawks rallied from down 11 early (13:57) to actually take a lead at halftime and eventually win, 80-76, over visiting Rhode Island College in non-league men's basketball action at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon in Newport.

Seymour started the scoring for the Seahawks (5-0) with a 3-pointer on an assist from fellow senior captain Jack McMullen (East Greenwich, R.I.). The Anchormen (2-3) then scored the next 14 points including triples from Noe Bom (Hamburg, Germany) and CJ Wilson (Hartford, Conn.).

Jack Margoupis (Sutton, Mass.) and William Mensah (Newburg, N.Y.) each made a pair of free throws while Zavier Francoeur (Canton, Mass.) stuffed a fast break dunk after a McMullen steal and alley-oop pass. The Anchormen still led by double digits (25-15) after a Xavier Mendez (Pawtucket, R.I.) layup at 9:12. Seymour's second trey was followed by a Pat Spenard (Rochester, Mass.) hook shot in the paint.

After Bom grabbed a defensive board and went the other way for a fast break layup at 2:37 for a 40-33 lead, Salve Regina finished the first half with a 9-0 run.

Bom opened the second half scoring with a 3-pointer and the final 20 minutes featured 10 lead changes and six ties. The last deadlock came at 64-64 when Bom made a pair of free throws and then Spenard's second-chance layup off an assist from Margoupis came after an offensive rebound by McMullen. McMullen then converted an old-fashioned three-point play following a steal and an assist from Domenic Malvey (Newton, N.H.).

McMullen's 3-pointer from the corner in front of his bench at 1:28 gave Salve Regina its largest cushion (seven points). The Seahawks maintained a three-possession advantage following a pair from the charity stripe by Spenard.
