MIDDLETOWN, R.I.-- Salve Regina University men's ice hockey fended off Wesleyan University 2-1 when senior
Cade DeStefani scored his second game winning goal in the last three games at Howard Rink on Wednesday night.
The Seahawks hosted the team's 5th annual Mental Health Awareness Night in collaboration with Newport Mental Health and NOSOLO. Newport Mental Health president & CEO Dayna Gladstein joined the captains on the ice for a ceremonial puck drop.
The Seahawks were the first to score with the luck of an own goal when the Cardinals knocked it into the net after a loose puck struggle right front of the goal crease in the second period. Wesleyan came back from the deficit to make it a 1-1 game midway through the third period. Less than five minutes later DeStefani netted his 5th goal of the season to give the Seahawks a 2-1 lead that they held onto indefinitely. The Cardinals saw a six on four dynamic with a Seahawk skater in the penalty box and an empty net but Salve Regina successfully thwarted the visitors efforts to score.
