GENEVA, N.Y. (Friday, February 7, 2025)-- William Smith women's ice hockey put a stop to Salve Regina 3-0 at their home rink, The Cooler, on Friday night when the host celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports day with a series of pregame events.

History: Going into the game Salve Regina women's ice hockey had an 0-8 all-time record against William Smith, following today's result the record moves to 0-9. The last game was a 5-1 verdict on November 2, 2019. Caroline Prezioso scored a power play goal to get the Seahawks on the board with less than ten minutes to go in regulation.
NOTEWORTHY
- William Smith stet the tone for the contest with two immediate face off wins and they fired off their first shot on net within 22 seconds of the game starting.
- Salve Regina held off William Smith for 18 minutes but Mackenzie O'Neil scored what would be the game winning goal with two minutes to go in the first period.
- The Herons extended the lead 2-0 midway through the second period with an even strength goal. In the final three minutes of play Salve Regina pulled the goalie and added a skater to the ice but the Herons were able to nab the puck and score an empty net goal for a 3-0 final score.
- Sydney Baxter made 31 saves after facing 14, the most of any period, in the first 20 minutes of action.
- Herons' Erin Murray had 21 saves. The Seahawks' game high of 11 shots on goal came in the their period.
- Reese Pereira and Riley Esposito led the team in shots on goal with five each.
- The Herons put a stop to the Seahawks four-game win streak after the team beat New England College on the road last week and Elmira College at home the week prior.
