MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Saturday, March 29, 2025)-- Junior Daniel Naglieri led Salve Regina men's lacrosse to an 11-10 overtime win against Emerson College on senior day at Gaudet Field, advancing the Seahawks to 3-0 in-conference.
Salve Regina got an early 3-0 lead with two goals from freshman Heath Sumwalt and a man-up conversion by Liam Cooney in the first and early second quarter. The Lions shifted momentum with a four-goal run but Sumwalt tied it up 4-4 going into halftime.
While the Seahawks led 8-6 after the third quarter, a successful fourth period by the Lions had Salve Regina trailing 10-9 until Justin DeBalsi knotted the game at 10-10 with three minutes in regulation which sent the teams into overtime.
Sumwalt caused a turnover with 2:37 remaining in OT which gave the Seahawks an opportunity to score. Daniel Nagleiri sank the game winning goal after snaking to the right side of the net and launching a shot above the head of Lions' goalie Elijah Turbow.
The Seahawks honored the graduating class of 15 student-athletes before the game started. Justin Haverly, Mason Barbone, Connor Matthews, Jack Naglieri, Andrew Senecal, Daniel Bourdeau, Liam Cooney, Ryan Cuddy, Connor McNaughton, Spencer O'Reilly, Justin DeBalsi, Ryan Iritano, Grant Willoe, Thomas Skolnick and Gavin Johnson all took the field in the pregame ceremony.

History: When the Seahawks first joined the NEWMAC last season Salve Regina beat Emerson 13-12 in overtime at the Lions home Rotch Field. Max Beauchamp '24 scored the game winning goal off an assist from Liam Cooney with 21 seconds to go in the four-minute period.
NOTEWORTHY
- Emerson outshot Salve Regina by a narrow 24-22 margin.
- The Seahawks picked up 27 ground balls led by Casey Johnson, Andrew Senecal and Gavin Johnson who each had four.
- The Seahawks and Lions went 11-11 on the face off.
- Seahawk senior goalie Connor Matthews stood in net for the full game and made 14 crucial saves.
- Sumwalt scored a hat trick and provided two assists as Salve Regina's leading scorer for the contest.

"The goal was awesome," said Daniel. "I turned it over the play before and thanks to our defense we got it back. I had a second chance and capitalized. It's a great feeling. The Seahawks came out with a W."
"Going to school with my little brother-- at first I thought, why does he follow me around all the time," joked Jack on senior day. "It's been an awesome time for not only me and Dan, but our parents too. It's a family community and it feels like everyone is involved. It's really a blessing and I'm so happy that we could make this happen."

The Seahawks return home to Gaudet Field on Saturday, April 5, at 3 p.m. to host Wheaton College in a NEWMAC game.
