MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Saturday, April 5, 2025)-- First year Heath Sumwalt scored just six seconds into overtime with the game winning goal against the visiting Wheaton College Lyons in NEWMAC play at Gaudet Field on a Rainy Saturday afternoon.
Sumwalt jump started the Seahawks' success, along with potting the game-winner, by scoring the first two goals of the day to put Salve Regina in the lead 2-0 in the first three minutes of the game.
Neither team was ever able to secure a reliable lead, with the Seahawks and Lyons battling back and forth until the end of regulation. Wheaton's Emmett Edwards gave the visitors a 10-9 lead with just under ten minutes left to play but Mason Barbone's snipe at the 3:32 mark tied it at 10-10 and gave the host another opportunity to score, which is exactly what Sumwalt did.
Fifth year Jack Naglieri now leads the Seahawk record book in career games played with a total of 69. As a standout defensemen Naglieri currently has a career total 283 ground balls and 118 caused turnovers.
