DARTMOUTH, Mass. (Tuesday, March 4, 2025)-- Salve Regina University's Samantha Moleti, Edie Threshie and Kayli Garcia combined for seven goals against the hosting UMass Boston women's lacrosse team when the Seahawks fell just shy of the Corsairs 13-10 in non conference play on the road Tuesday.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final:
UMass Dartmouth 13, Salve Regina 11
Records: Salve Regina (0-4, 0-0 NEWMAC), UMass Dartmouth (2-1, 0-0 LEC)
History: Dating back to the 1998 season women's lacrosse has a 14-10 winning record against UMass Dartmouth. The Seahawks have won the previous four meetings with last year's 15-10 victory. Cameron Baston netted five goals and Holly Sullivan secured the Seahawks first and last goals of the encounter.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Salve Regina had an early free position shot but was unable to convert three minutes into the game. Shortly thereafter the Corsairs' Maddy Allen scored her 12th goal of the season at the 11:22 mark. However, the Seahawks didn't let an early deficit stop them. Salve Regina took advantage of a Corsair yellow card and Edie Threshie potted her seventh goal of the season, receiving a lateral pass from Adelaide Baird with just under ten minutes to go in quarter one. Delia Tarasco found the back of the net a minute later with a deflected ball right in front of the goal crease. The Seahawks were able to increase their lead to 3-1 when Threshie passed to Kayli Garcia from the top of the key and Garcia was able to scoop up the ball, and score.
  • Still in quarter one action Daniella Bruno scored man-down on a breakaway play with an assist from Alix Madden. This 4-0 run forced the Corsairs to use one of their timeouts. UMD recovered to bring the score to 4-2 but Samantha Moleti made it a 5-2 game with 32 seconds remaining in the quarter. UMass Dartmouth made a counter move with a goal 20 seconds later and the quarter ended with the Seahawks leading 5-3.
  • The Corsairs saw a strong third quarter with four back to back goals to put the host up 10-7. Moleti shrunk UMD's lead when she scored with two minutes to go in the quarter, man-up. The Seahawks got even closer to UMass Boston when Garcia found a free position goal with 26 seconds to go in the quarter. The Seahawks entered the final 15 minutes of regulation just one goal away from the hosting team, 10-9.
  • UMB made it an 11-9 game to start the final quarter and a series of saves by Seahawks' Flynn Kayajan at the ten minute mark were critical for Salve Regina. Threshie made it a one goal game with her eighth goal of the season at the 8:46 mark bringing the score to 11-10. The Corsairs would score twice more before Moleti claimed the final goal of the game, the Seahawks still following 13-11.
  • Kayajan made a total of 10 saves. UMB's Keira Bushey provided eight stops.
  • Kayajan, Emily Gerosa and Anne Kennedy all had two caused turnovers.
