MARLBOROUGH, Mass. -- Salve Regina University graduate student Briana Neary and junior Sofia Neary were recognized when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its postseason awards on Wednesday morning.

Sofia was named to the All-NEWMAC first team and garnered all-conference laurels for the first time, while Briana received all-league accolades for the second consecutive season landing on the All-NEWMAC second team.

The younger Neary started 25 games and led the league in rebounding with a career-best 10.8 boards per game. She was the only NEWMAC player to average a double-double for the season while ranking sixth in the league in scoring with 14.8 points per game. Sofia posted a double-double for points and rebounds in 12 of her 25 games.

Briana started all 26 games for the Seahawks and led the team in scoring with her career-best 400 points (15.4 points per game ranks fourth in the NEWMAC). She made more free throws in a season (129) and a game (16-for-16 against Babson on Jan. 25) than any other Seahawk in program history.

Briana ends her career with 1,482 points to finish fourth on the program's all-time scoring list. Briana and Sofia become the first Seahawk sibling pair to collect women's basketball all-conference accolades in the same season.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH HUGHES

"I am so happy that Sofia and Briana were both recognized - it is well deserved. They each had an excellent season and were a big part of our overall success this year.  I am so proud of them both." -- Seahawk head coach Cori Hughes

The Seahawks (15-10 overall; 7-4 NEWMAC) tied for third at the end of the league's regular season and advanced to their first-ever semifinal following a 93-87 quarterfinal win at Emerson College, before falling to eventual five-time tournament champion Smith College.
