MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- (Saturday, August 30, 2025)-- Senior field hockey captain
Julia Decker '26 scored six goals to lead the Salve Regina University Seahawks to victory in a 9-0 shutout of the visiting Salem State University Vikings at Gaudet Field in the team's 2025 home opener.
Salve Regina took advantage of beautiful, sunny conditions to get right to work against Salem State with Decker scoring 52 seconds into the action. She went on to net five more goals over the course of the encounter with
Elliot Lund '29,
Sage Mauro '27 and
Georgia Costello '26 contributing to the count.

Records: Salve Regina (1-0,0-0 NEWMAC), Salem State (0-1,0-0 MASCAC)
History: Salve has been victorious against Salen State in field hockey on every occurrence since a 5-3 loss in 2013. Last year the Seahawks beat the Vikings 6-0 and Natalie Vaughan '27 scored the opening goal, also her first collegiate goal. Five more Seahawks went on to score in the remaining time.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Elliot Lund netted her first collegiate goal at 8:39 into the contest.
- Siany Ortez '29 started the game out in goal for Salve Regina, providing two saves against Salem State's only shots on net during the encounter. Goalkeeper Madi Allard '27 entered for the final 15 minutes of play.
- Salve Regina out shot Salem State 20-2 over the course of the game.
- In addition to Lund and Ortez, Ava Santa '29, Grace Bender '29, Jillian Lydon '29 and Julianne Gilchrist '29 all recorded their first minutes on the clock in the Seahawk uniform.
