Camels claim 1-0 victory against Seahawks

Five Seahawks log 90 minutes apiece

NEWPORT, R.I. -- (Sunday, September 7, 2025) -- Salve Regina University women's soccer met the Camels of Connecticut College for the first time in nearly three decades and the visitors took a 1-0 victory during a steady drizzle at Toppa Field on Sunday afternoon.

The teams played scoreless soccer in the first half which included an entire new 11 players on the field for the Camels after a mass substitution midway through the frame.

In the 58th minute, the Seahawks (0-2-1) were whistled for a foul and Una McCorry (Bronxville, N.Y.) set up her free kick just in front of her bench from more than 40 yards out. Freshman Claire Chace (Bristol, R.I.) redirected the feed and it slid past the Seahawk keeper for the game's only score.

Following a series of corner kicks from freshman Kay Doherty (Chelmsford, Mass.), Salve senior Sara Wiejkus (Marshfield, Mass.) put a missile towards the goal in the 88th minute that appeared to be bending in for the game equalizer before sailing right past the post. The Seahawks still seek their first goal of 2025.
