Seahawks top Rams, 3-2

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- The Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team edged past visiting Framingham State University 3-2 on Friday night with three different Seahawks scoring.

Salve Regina struck first when Arielle Sushinski capitalized on a power-play opportunity just past the midpoint of the first period. Assisted by Kiersten Rasmussen and Samantha McKenzie, the tally gave the Seahawks early momentum.

The second period saw Sunshine Clark extend the lead on a quick-strike goal with helpers from Ashtyn Bringardner and Margueritte Donahue, only to have FSU cut it to 2-1. Salve Regina answered back before the period ended as Rasmussen found net on a sharp-angle shot, restoring a two-goal cushion entering the third.

Framingham State battled back in the final frame, pulling within one on a late second goal, but Salve Regina held firm over the closing minutes. Goalies Taylor Hannafan and Kristen Albertini split duties in net and were steadfast down the stretch, preserving the Seahawks' advantage 3-2 advantage.
