Batchelder records hat trick in 5-4 win over Huskies

GORHAM, Maine. — In a back-and-forth showdown the Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team claimed a hard-fought 5–4 victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Saturday when freshman Caroline Batchelder recorded a hat trick.

Salve Regina struck first in the opening period when Batchelder opened the scoring on a pass from Kiersten Rasmussen at 12:39. Just a minute later, Southern Maine answered to even the game, but Salve Regina kept pressure high. Batchelder added a shorthanded goal at the 17:51 mark — her second of the stanza — to restore the lead before the Huskies tied it yet again with a late period power-play tally.

The Seahawks continued their offensive push in the second frame. Batchelder completed her hat trick with a goal at 10:09, and Samantha McKenzie extended the advantage shortly after to put Salve Regina up 4–2. Southern Maine responded late in the period to keep the margin close heading into the third.

Salve Regina seized early third-period momentum when Ashtyn Bringardner, assisted by Sarah Bush, redirected a goal just 2:33 in to stretch the lead to 5–3. Though the Huskies battled back with their fourth goal of the afternoon, the Seahawks' offense remained solid.
