PAXTON, Mass. — The Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team battled through a tight road test on Tuesday evening, edging out the Anna Maria College Amcats with a final score of 3-2.
Caroline Batchelder opened the scoring late in the first period, converting on a power play opportunity at 16:22 to give Salve Regina the early advantage.
Anna Maria responded minutes later with a goal of their own to make it 1-1. However, Salve Regina's depth showed in the second period when
Samantha McKenzie reclaimed the lead with a quick strike just 2:24 into the frame, redirecting a feed from
Reese Pereira.
The third period saw
Riley Esposito extend the Seahawks' lead to 3-1 with a well-executed shot at 1:46. Though Anna Maria battled back late with another goal at 18:01 mark, Salve Regina's defense, and key saves from
Kristen Albertini, kept the Seahawks in the lead.
