MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Salve Regina University women's track and field began the spring 2026 season competing at the J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic, hosted by Wesleyan University, and the Seahawks saw numerous breakthrough performances.
Senior
Kelsey Chiasson set a new school record in the shot put with a throw of 11.65 meters. With this result Chiasson achieved a second place finish. Junior
Olivia Tacconi won the 100m with a time of 12.85. Junior
Isabella Hastings won the 5000m with a time of 18:21.19.
Sophomore
Kaleigh Nelligan had a standout performance of her own, setting personal bests in two events. She cleared 2.45 meters in the pole vault and ran 29.57 seconds in the 200 meters. Freshman
Gianna Stanley placed fifth in the hammer throw with a throw of 36.69 meters.
"It is hard to ask for better weather for our season opener than we got today," said head women's track and field coach
Andrew Furst. "The ladies competed hard and we are taking some positive moment from these performances with us into the Corsair Classic next weekend at UMass Dartmouth."
