WORCESTER, Mass.-- Sophomore
Madison Maire went on a four-goal scoring run in the first quarter to create early momentum for the Salve Regina University women's lacrosse team as they hosted the United States Coast Guard Academy bears, before the visitor took a late 14-10 win in the final quarter at Gaudet Field on Wednesday.
Salve Regina remained solidly in the lead throughout the first quarter.
Avery Nistl and
Nora Cooney both added to the scoring to set Salve Regina ahead 7-3 after 30 minutes of action.
Alexandra Walsh and Alix Madded advanced the Seahawks in the third frame before the Bears saw a late push with eight goals in the fourth quarter to surpass the host.
The Seahawks initially fell behind 10-9 midway through the final quarter but
Daniella Bruno reestablished the tie. Bears' Abby McAllister netted the next three goals, which became the deciding factor.
Siting firmly in the seventh spot in the conference, Salve Regina secured a place in the NEWMAC postseason with today's result.
