WALTHAM, Mass. (April 28, 2026) -- Sophomore
Dylan Cimini (Stonington, Conn.) went 4-for-5 with five runs batted in to lead No. 4-ranked Salve Regina University baseball to a 16-6 victory in eight innings over MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Stein Diamond on the campus of Brandeis University on Tuesday night in Waltham, Massachusetts.
With the win, Salve Regina (30-4, 12-2 NEWMAC) clinches the regular-season title and the top seed in the postseason for the third consecutive year. Since 2024, its first year in the league, Salve Regina has never played a NEWMAC postseason game away from Reynolds Field. The Seahawks swept through the playoffs last year including a 6-5 triumph over MIT in extra innings as
Tyler Petrosino (Beverly, Mass.) singled home
Shane Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) with the winning run in the 10th after Williams led off the extra frame with a triple.
Williams got the scoring started tonight with a first-inning single through the right side. Cimini had the first of his RBI singles and later stole second before scoring an unearned run on an Engineer error.
Elliot Hamilton's (Glastonbury, Conn.) lead off home run in the second boosted the Salve Regina lead to 4-1 before a three-run third inning. Williams pulled a one-out double to right field and scored on Cimini's second single. Hamilton and
Grady Schopps (Fairfield, Conn.) added RBI singles in the third.
In the fourth, Cimini came through again with an RBI single after
Danny Rogers (New Canaan, Conn.) led off with a hit by pitch, moved to second on a walk to
Evan O'Rourke (Arlington, Mass.), and reached third on a fly out.
The Seahawks scored in the fifth as Rogers tripled in
James Anastasopoulos (Sherborn, Mass.) after the freshman third baseman singled with one out.
Anastasopoulos added a two-run double and scored on a wild pitch as part of a four-run seventh inning for the Seahawks. His sacrifice fly in the eighth started the three-run outburst that finished the scoring.
Andrew Schmit (Shrewsbury, Mass.) pinch-hit with the bases-loaded and was hit by a pitch. Cimini's sac fly finished the scoring.
Starter
Brady Shea (Worcester, Mass.) picked up his second victory against the Engineers in eight days. He was followed by
Joe DeRienzo (Trumbull, Conn.) and
Liam Scholl (Brunswick, Maine) on the bump.
The Seahawks return home to host UMass Boston on Wednesday afternoon on Reynolds Field on
FloCollege.
