#4 Salve Regina beats Babson, 7-1, behind seven strong innings from Ortiz Ramirez

Shane Williams launches two-run homer in third

NEWPORT, R.I. (April 7, 2026) -- The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) reigning Pitcher of the Week, Salve Regina junior righthander Luis Ortiz Ramirez (Boston, Mass.), started and went seven innings of one-hit ball while blanking Babson College as the No. 4-ranked Seahawks defeated the visiting Beavers, 7-1, at Reynolds Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Salve Regina (19-2, 6-1 NEWMAC) wins its sixth in a row after scoring all seven of its runs in the first five frames. Ortiz Ramirez faced the minimum through his first six innings, allowing only a leadoff single to designated hitter Brooks Saft (New Hope, Pa.) in the third before inducing an inning-ending double play grounder turned by Jake Harring (Portsmouth, N.H.) at second to Grady Schopps (Fairfield, Conn.) at short to Elliot Hamilton (Glastonbury, Conn.) at first.

Meanwhile, Harring led off the Seahawk first with a single to left field. A couple of Beaver fielding miscues loaded the bases and the league's reigning Athlete of the Week, Salve Regina sophomore center fielder Danny Rogers (New Canaan, Conn.), singled through the right side to drive in the game's first two runs. Harring led off the third with a single to right field and came home ahead of senior captain and right fielder Shane Williams (Georgetown, Mass.), who had homered to right center after fouling off three two-strike pitches.

In the Seahawk fourth, Schopps singled with one out and advanced to second after Harring walked (and reached base for the third straight plate appearance). Senior captain and catcher Shea Donovan (Milton, Mass.) singled sharply to left field to bring in Schopps for a 5-0 edge. Evan O'Rourke (Arlington, Mass.) led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to right center and scored on Dylan Cimini's (Stonington, Conn.) double to left center. Cimini scored when Schopps doubled down the left field line.

Ortiz Ramirez faced 23 batters to record 21 outs. In the Babson (11-9, 3-2 NEWMAC) seventh against the Seahawk starter, Ortiz Ramirez struck out his sixth Beaver of the day before hitting a batter with a 1-2 pitch. A balk moved the runner to second and then a ground out moved him to third, now with two down. Ortiz Ramirez got ahead 0-2 on Ryan Liss (Hollywood, Fla.) but threw four straight pitches outside the strike zone and walked his first batter of the season, the 95th person to step into the box to face him. Ortiz Ramirez retained the shutout bid with a fielder's choice grounder to Schopps at short.

In the Beaver eighth, Dylan Drazka (Rye Brook, N.Y.) drilled a two-out double to right center to plate Bobby Christensen (Scotch Plains, N.J.) for the lone Babson run. Christensen and Saft later added ninth-inning singles for only the third and fourth Beaver hits of the game.

For the Seahawks, multi-hit game for Harring, O'Rourke, Hamilton, and Schopps. Salve Regina next plays at home on Thursday in non-league action with Mitchell College and a 3 p.m. first pitch at Reynolds Field on FloCollege.
