NEWPORT, R.I. (April 9, 2026) -- Five Seahawks had at least an RBI led by three from right fielder
Shane Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) who blasted his team-leading seventh home run of the season to lead No. 4-ranked Salve Regina University baseball to an 8-1 decision over visiting Mitchell College in non-league action Thursday afternoon at Reynolds Field in Newport, Rhode Island.
Today marks the 17th meeting all-time on the baseball diamond between these two schools. One year after Salve Regina had a record-setting 27-2 victory (March 20, 2024) over Mitchell, the Mariners got their revenge by eking out a 4-3 win on March 20, 2025. The Seahawks now lead the all-time series, 13-4.
After two scoreless frames for both teams, Mitchell (17-9) got the first run of the game when
Ryan Dennis (Enfield, Conn.) led off the third with a base on balls and stole second. He came home on a double to left center byÂ
Christopher Piscione (Cranston, R.I.). Salve Regina (20-2) jumped ahead in the bottom of the inning when the 9-1 batters --
James Anastasopoulos (Sherborn, Mass.) and
Jake Harring (Portsmouth, R.I.), respectively -- banged back-to-back doubles, one to left field and the other down the right field line. Harring came home on
Evan O'Rourke's (Arlington, Mass.) sacrifice fly.
Harring led off the Seahawk fifth with his third base hit of the day and moved to second after
Shea Donovan (Milton, Mass.) was hit by a pitch.Â
Lucas Nichols (Alderville First Nation, Canada) replaced his brother,
Ethan Nichols, on the mound and Williams went opposite field for his three-run homer, bumping the Seahawk lead to 5-1. O'Rourke doubled on an 0-1 pitch immediately after Williams went yard, then moved to third on a wild pitch, and
Danny Rogers (New Canaan, Conn.) delivered the fourth run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.
With two down,
Elliot Hamilton (Glastonbury, Conn.) walked and
Grady Schopps (Fairfield, Conn.) was hit by a pitch. The pair moved up on a double steal and scored on Anastasopoulos' two-run single through the left side.
Seahawk pitching -- starter
Jakob Oliver (Ramsey, N.J.), relievers
James Keating (Norwood, N.J.),
Connor Toriello (North Berwick, Maine), and
Isaac Cabral (Lincoln, R.I.) -- limited the Mariners to five hits.
Salve Regina returns to Reynolds Field on Saturday to host a non-league doubleheader against UMass Dartmouth with a first pitch at noon on
FloCollege.
