#23 Beacons best Seahawks with second-half goal

Ty Ferris ties score with six seconds left in first half

NEWPORT, R.I. (September 1, 2026) -- Salve Regina University junior Ty Ferris (Ridgewood, N.J.) converted a pass from Lincoln Freeman (Avon, Conn.) with six seconds left in the first half to tie the score 1-1 with UMass Boston, but the Beacons got the game-winner from John Arruda (Espirito Santo, Brazil) in the 75th minute to hold on for a 2-1 final at Toppa Field in non-league action.

Arruda was the Beacons' leading scorer in 2025 when they finished the season ranked #23 in the United Soccer Coaches poll. They begin 2026 in the same spot.

Last year, Salve Regina (0-1) and UMass Boston (1-0) opened the season in Boston with a scoreless draw after 90 minutes. Tonight the teams were scoreless for the first 40 minutes until Eduardo Chirico (Minus Girais, Brazil) redirected a rebound after Adonis Santiago (Oakdale, Conn.) stopped a blast from Gabriel Jordao (Bellingham, Mass.).
