Salve Regina Saved by the Bell

Seahawks defeat Sharks, 3-1; Catie Bell scores goal, assists on two others

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Saturday, September 12, 2026) -- Salve Regina University freshman midfielder Catie Bell (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal in the second quarter this afternoon to tie the field hockey game, 1-1, and then assisted on two fourth-quarter tallies as the Seahawks defeated the visiting Sharks of Simmons College, 3-1, in non-league Division III action at Gaudet Field.

Kaitlyn Frye (Nashua, N.H.) had given the Sharks (0-5) a first-quarter lead with Simmons' first score of the season, coming off a penalty corner inserted by Hailey Brisson (Weare, N.H.) at the 6:10 mark. The Sharks had only two more penalty corner opportunities both in the fourth quarter.

Bell's game-tying goal came off a penalty corner inserted by senior Grace Warnick (Clark, N.J.) with nine and a half minutes to go in the first half.

The teams remained tied into the final quarter despite Salve Regina (3-1) having a game-high six (6) penalty corners in the third period.

With just over five minutes to go, Bell sent in a hard drive from outside the arc that Sage Mauro (Woodbury, Conn.) redirected for the go-ahead goal. Bell helped classmate Nikki Schuster (Walpole, Mass.) ring in her first collegiate goal with a duplicate drive from the top.

Siany Ortez (Attleboro, Mass.) made four stops in 60 minutes of action for her third win in four starts this season. A bright spot for the Sharks in their fifth loss was 14 saves for senior goalie Haley Bright (Norfolk, Mass.).
