Seahawks top Pioneers with first and third quarter scoring

Salve Regina def. William Paterson, 41-6; improves to 3-0

NEWPORT, R.I. (Saturday, September 19, 2026) -- Spencer Chapman (Needham, Mass.) grabbed a pair of Stephen Paradiso (Cedar Grove, N.J.) passes for two early scores while Padraig Brown (Newington, Conn.) connected with Michael Fulton (Milton, Mass.) for another as Salve Regina University football put up 20 points in the first quarter and added three touchdowns in the third quarter of a 41-6 final over visiting William Paterson University in non-league action on Saturday afternoon at Toppa Field in Newport, Rhode Island.

The Seahawks (3-0, 0-0 NEWMAC) moved to 2-1 all-time against the Pioneers (0-2, 0-0 NJAC) who visited Newport for the first time in the series. Salve Regina scores 41 or more points for the 58th time in program history (since 1993).

On the Seahawks opening drive, Paradiso completed four of six passes -- to four different teammates ... Ethan Lemos (Wethersfield, Conn.), Robert Zdrojeski III (Glastonbury, Conn.), Michael LaRusso (Congers, N.Y.), and Chapman -- the latter a 10-yard toss after a scramble into the middle. LaRusso had a 20-yard gain on the ground, and 31 overall on three carries on the initial series.

A Paradiso 37-yard pass to Jamie Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) gave the Seahawks 1st-and-Goal on their second drive. Neal Tullson (Little Compton, R.I.) ran for three yards to the six before a false start penalty pushed Salve Regina back to the 11. Brown found Fulton in the back left corner of the endzone for the touchdown.

After the second Pioneer punt gave the Seahawks the ball on the Pioneer 48, Paradiso needed just two passes to Chapman around a LaRusso three-yard carry to produce the third score of the game.

Both teams had long second-quarter drives that ended with an interception. David Weston (Middletown, Conn.) picked off a JC Landini ( Egg Harbor City, N.J.) and returned it 30 yards to the Salve Regina 46. The Seahawks returned the favor when Paradiso's pass on 2nd-and-6 from the Pioneer 10 was nabbed by Terrill Yankson (Willingboro, N.J.).

In the second half, the teams exchanged back-to-back turnovers with James Bonner (Pequannock, N.J.) intercepting a Brown pass and Jack Mead (Manasquan, N.J.) returning a fumble recovery 40 yards up the sideline in front of the visiting bench.

On 3rd-and-8 from the visitor 18-yard line, Paradiso connected with Lemos on the left for a 27-0 lead.

Paradiso shook off a sack and completed successive passes to Fulton (28 yards), Lemos (8 yards), and Jake Brilliant (Marshfield, Mass.) for 11 yards for another first down at the Pioneer 15-yard line. Three rushes by Tullson took the Seahawks to another touchdown.

Maxime Makuza (Milton, Vt.) recovered a Pioneer fumble at the William Paterson 27-yard line with 4:10 left in the third quarter. Brown completed passes to Chapman and Zdrojeski before romping seven yards into the endzone for the final Seahawk score. Nathan DiRado (Carver, Mass.) made his fifth PAT of the game.

Despite trailing 41-0, William Paterson engineered its scoring drive in the fourth quarter largely on the ground with Ethan McNair (Beacon, N.Y.) gaining 30 yards on eight carries and Landini hitting Hilton Aguilar (Norfolk, Va.) for an 18-yard strike that spoiled the Seahawks shutout.

Paradiso finished with 206 yards passing and three touchdowns on 16 completions. Chapman had two of those touchdowns on six receptions for 87 yards. Defensively, Owen Nanartowich (Hudson, Mass.) led the Seahawks in stops for the second consecutive week, four solo and four assisted for eight total. Keegan Plante (Mattapoisett, Mass.) and Jason Fisher (Hamburg, N.J.) each had a solo sack in the win.
