NEWPORT, R.I. — The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team opened NEWMAC play with an impressive 3-0 sweep of the visiting Clark University Cougars at Rodgers Recreation Center Tuesday night. The Seahawks took control from the opening serve and never let the Cougars find their footing, earning set victories of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-13.
Salve established an early rhythm, overcoming a competitive opening set to pull away late. The Seahawks finished the first frame with nine kills and hit .172, while their defense held Clark to a .121 hitting percentage. Salve's balanced attack helped secure the 25-20 victory and an early match advantage.
The Seahawks then turned up the pressure in the second set. Salve produced 12 kills while hitting .235, while Clark managed just seven kills. The Seahawks also used their service game to create separation, cruising to a 25-14 win and moving one set away from the sweep.
Anouk Jansen (Queen Creek, Ariz.) led Salve's attack with seven kills, while Lauren Shurling (Hudson, Mass.) and Frankie Spadorcia (Braintree, Mass.) each added six. Spadorcia put down six kills on nine attacks without committing an error for a .667 hitting percentage.
At the net, Salve consistently disrupted Clark's attack. Abby McRoy (Fall River, Mass.), Sydney Hanlon (Sandwich, Mass.) and Spadorcia each recorded three blocks, while Jansen added two blocks. The Seahawks finished with an 8-5 advantage in team blocks and held Clark to a -.012 hitting percentage overall.

NOTEWORTHY:
- Overall, Salve controlled nearly every statistical category, finishing with advantages in kills (27-22), aces (11-3), blocks (8-5), assists (23-21), digs (35-29) and total points (46-30).
- The Seahawks also hit .183 as a team while limiting Clark to -.012.
