WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester State College baseball team was shut out by the visiting Seahawks of Salve Regina Wednesday afternoon by the final score of, 11-0, snapping a modest three game winning streak by the Lancers at Tivnan Field. It was the first time that Worcester State had been shutout since last year's NCAA tournament. Worcester State falls to, 13-11 on the year, while Salve Regina improves to 18-10.
Three Seahawk pitchers led by junior Matt Palmisano (Chicago, IL) gave up just 6 hits to the Lancers who had posted 33 hits in their last two contests. Palmisano went seven strong innings striking out five and giving up five hits. He was followed by Joseph Leafe (Manchester, NH) and Davin Sirpenski (Voluntown, CT) who each pitched an inning of relief.
Offensively, Salve Regina pounded out 16 hits including a three run homerun from Sirpenski and a two run shot from shortstop Steven Tressler (Phoenix, AZ). First baseman Bobby Kemple (Ithaca, NY) hd a big day for the Seahawks as he went 4 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Tressler had three hits on the day while three other Seahawks had a pair of hits.
Worcester State had only one base runner reach third base all afternoon. The Lancers will be back on the diamond tomorrow when they travel to Wheaton College. Salve Regina will return to the road when they visit MCLA tomorrow.
