NEWPORT, R.I. (April 19, 2006) -- Salve Regina University baseball swept a doubleheader from Curry College today in Newport to run the Seahawk win streak to six games. Pitching has been the key as the Seahawks have allowed a total of six runs (only four earned) in their last six games.
Matt Palmisano [JR/Chicago, Ill.] started the opener and hurled 6.1 innings while scattering 10 Colonel hits. Curry led 2-0 before Salve Regina gained the lead with three runs in the bottom of the 4th on four hits. Davin Sirpenski [JR/Voluntown, Conn.] and Bobby Kemple [JR/Ithaca, N.Y.] had an RBI apiece.
Matt Finlayson [SO/Higganum, Conn.] doubled home Brendan Haire [SO/Waterford, Conn.] with an insurance run in the fifth. Sirpenski retired the final two batters of the game for his third save of the season.
In Game 2, Seahawk lefty Joseph Leafe [JR/Manchester, N.H.] pitched a perfect game for 4.1 innings before issuing a one-out walk to Matt Perrin [SR/Saugus, Mass.]. Leafe's mound counterpart, Ben Lown [SR/Plainville, Mass.], broke up the no-hit bid with a single, moving Perrin to second. Perrin scored on a failed pickoff attempt by Leafe. Matt Leonard [SO/Ridgefield, Conn.] and Haire combined for five hits and three RBI as the Seahawks dealt Lown his first pitching defeat of the season.
