NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University junior Alex Melcher (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Baseball Player of the Week.

Melcher batted .400 (6-for-15) with two RBI and three runs scored as the Seahawks opened their season with a 2-2 weekend in Kissimmee, Fla. He laced a pair of singles and drove in two runs in the Seahawks 6-5 season-opening win over Penn State-Altoona on Saturday, then went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base in an 8-6 triumph over the Lions in the second game of the doubleheader. Melcher finished the weekend 1-for-6 as WPI took a pair of games from Salve Regina Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks (2-3) - who dropped a 10-5 decision to Keystone (Pa.) on Monday afternoon - return to action on Wednesday when they play Emerson at 4:30 p.m.
