NEWPORT, R.I. - Senior Jordan Sileo (Bristol, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal with just 39 seconds remaining in double overtime to spark the Salve Regina University women's soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Eastern Nazarene during the quarterfinal round of the CCC Championship at Reynolds Field on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

"I am very proud of this team today," said Salve Regina head coach Kerri Scroope. "Even in difficult conditions, they never gave up. This team has had ups and downs this year, being undefeated to going four games without a win. They could have felt defeated but they rallied together as a team, and today is a true testament of that."

The Seahawks took a 1-0 lead late in the opening half when senior Liz Galla (Beacon Falls, Conn.) scored an unnassisted goal in the 41st minute of play.

However, the Lions answered right back less than five minutes later, as senior Jillian Thorton (Guilderland, N.Y.) collected an unnassisted tally with just 14 seconds remaining in the half. It was the Lions' only shot of the period, but they made it count, sending the two teams into the break tied at 1-1.

Both teams were held off the board in the second half, with the Seahawks outshooting the Lions 14-5, while compiling a 3-1 edge in corners. ENC goalkeeper Rachel Henry (Lowell, Mass.) made seven saves during the period to keep the match tied and send it to overtime.

The Lions outshot the Seahawks 3-1 during the first overtime, but neither team was able to break through as the match went into double overtime.

The game appeared destined to be decided by a shootout, as the score remained tied after 109 minutes of play. However, Sileo provided some last minute heroics for the Seahawks, scoring an unnassisted game-winning goal with just 39 seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift Salve Regina to a 2-1 victory.

"Eastern Nazarene played us very tough today and never gave in," said SRU head coach Kerri Scroope. "It was clear this was going to be a one goal game and I am very proud to say we came out on top."

The Seahawks advance to the semifinal round of the CCC Championship on Wednesday (1 p.m.) when they will travel to face-off against local rival Roger Williams University.
