Seahawks drop 14-8 decision to Scots

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team fell behind 6-0 in the first quarter and never recovered, dropping a 14-8 decision to Gordon College on Saturday night at Gaudet Field. The Seahawks fall to 1-4 on the season, while the Fighting Scots even their overall mark at 6-6.

Sophomore Curtis McKeon (West Haven, Conn.) stood out for the Seahawks, compiling a team-high four points (2g, 2a) while winning 17-of-25 faceoff attempts and leading all players with 10 ground balls. Sophomore Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) added three goals in the loss, while freshman Beau Bennardo (Rumson, N.J.) totaled three points on two goals and one helper.

Senior Adam Quinn (Gloucester, Mass.) led all players with six goals for the Scots, while fellow senior Wes Chittick (Glenside, Pa.) added five points on two goals and three assists.

Gordon controlled the first quarter of play jumping out to a 6-0 lead and ending the frame with a 7-1 advantage.

After the Scots scored the opening goal of the second quarter, the Seahawks rallied for three straight scores to cut the GC lead down to 8-4.

The Scots answered right back by scoring the last two goals of the half, taking a 10-4 advantage into the break.

Salve Regina played well in the second half, outscoring the Scots 2-1 in the third quarter.

After Hollenshade scored the opening goal of the fourth quarter, the Seahawks found themselves back within four at 11-7.

However, the Scots responded with three consecutive goals before holding on for the 14-8 victory.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m., with the Scots hosting Roger Williams and the Seahawks traveling to face Curry.
