Box Score LEICESTER, Mass. - The Salve Regina University baseball team dropped its seventh straight contest during a 22-4 non-conference loss to Becker College on Tuesday evening.
Salve Regina catcher Nicholas Barrese (Seaside Park, N.J.) led the Seahawks after going two-for-five, with two runs scored. Sophomore Stephen Crawford (Barrington, R.I.) came off the bench to go two-for-two with two runs scored. Joe Haley (North Kingstown, R.I.) also added two hits on the day for the Seahawks.
The Hawks were led by sophomore Mike Marcello (West Haven, Conn.) who had a career day, going three-for-five, with four RBI's and three runs scored. Phillips also had three hits on the afternoon, becoming the tenth player in Becker history to collect his 100th hit. On top of his three hits, Phillips scored four times. Leadoff hitter Joe Corey (Billerica, Mass.) also had a great day, going two-for-three with four runs scored. Weston Meehan (Thomson, Ga.) capped off the afternoon for the Hawks with his 14th career homerun.
Becker starting pitcher Brian Dowling (Naugatuck, Conn.) earned his first collegiate win after pitching six innings, allowing one run on four hits. Becker (11-9) will return to action on Friday, April 6, when they begin a three game NECC series with Southern Vermont College at 3:00pm.
Seahawks starter Charles Kwolek (Greenville, R.I.) lasted just two innings, allowing 11 runs (two earned) on six hits. Salve Regina will return to action tomorrow, April 4, when they host Wentworth in a CCC doubleheader, beginning at 2:00pm.
