Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - Salve Regina University softball split its two games at the National Training Center on Wednesday, falling victim to a Wesleyan University walk-off win in a 1 p.m. contest before finishing a 10-2 victory over Thomas College in five innings after a 5 p.m. start.
Ali Muehlbronner (Glenside, Pa.) fought hard against the Cardinals, leading the team in hits with singles in the third, fifth, and seventh innings. Marissa Simpson (Brimfield, Mass.) started off the hits with a hard ground ball to center field in the top of first, and added another single in the top of the sixth. Sara Nelson (Bristol, Conn.) and Genevieve Benoit (Swampscott, Mass.) also contributed with two combined RBIs.
The Cardinals had a walk-off victory in the seventh inning after Ashley McLaren singled to right field, allowing Lexi Parr and Allee Beatty to score for a 3-2 final.
On the mound, Seahawks pitcher Jen Cruver (North Haven, Conn.) racked up eight strikeouts and allowed nine hits, while Cardinals pitcher Laura Getchell had seven strikeouts, no walks, and eight hits.
The momentum then turned around when the Seahawks defeated the Thomas College Terriers 10-2 in five innings.
The bats were on fire for the Salve Regina softball team, racking up 12 hits overall. Muehlbronner and Simpson each had triples, while Jillian Quintana (Denver, Colo.) and Megan Jakiela (Meriden, Conn.) contributed with doubles. The Seahawks also benefited from singles by Muehlbronner, Jakiela, Cruver, Melissa Figueiredo (East Bridgewater, Mass.), Jennifer Edine (Warwick, R.I.), Genevieve Benoit (Swampscott, Mass.), and two by Nelson.
Seahawks pitchers Cruver and Dominique Burnham (Scarborough, Maine) combined to allow only one hit while striking out five.
