Polar Bears, Saints end Seahawks' trip with losses

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. - Salve Regina scored 13 runs in its final two games in Florida on Thursday, but the Seahawks suffered losses to both Bowdoin College (11-6) and St. Lawrence University (9-7).

Salve Regina finishes with a 2-8 record while the Polar Bears are just three games in with a 2-1 record and the Saints even their record at 5-5.

Against Bowdoin, the Seahawks had a seven-hit attack and benefitted from six bases on balls. Lexi Soucie (No. Easton, Mass.) led off the top of the first with one of those walks and scored on a single to right field from sophomore catcher Genevieve Benoit (Swampsott, Mass.).

Senior outfielder Sara Nelson (Bristol, Conn.) homered in the second for a 2-0 Salve Regina lead. It marked the tri-captain's third home run of her career.

The Polar Bears took a 5-2 lead with two in the second and three in the fourth, all coming against starter Kelsey Boarman (No. Dighton, Mass.) who went the distance. The Seahawks scored three runs across the fifth and sixth innings, two of them unearned, with Soucie contributing an RBI single.

A five-run sixth gave Bowdoin a six-run lead (11-5) before Lauren Nicholson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) doubled home Nelson for the final run of the game.

St. Lawrence stranded five base-runners in the first two innings against Salve Regina, but the Saints broke out with a six-run third inning. The Seahawks got one back in the bottom of the third as Nikki Bukovsky (Westport, Conn.) singled in Soucie.

Salve Regina rallied for six runs in its last two innings. Bukovsky and Edine had back-to-back singles to open the sixth. Bukovsky scored on an error and Edine later scored on a bases-loaded walk to fellow tri-captain Marissa Simpson (Brimfield, Mass.).

Bukovsky, who had three of Salve Regina's nine hits against St. Lawrence, singled in the seventh inning. Benoit and third baseman Kara O'Riley (Acton, Mass.) had back-to-back RBI singles before Nicholson struck a two-run single.

The Seahawks return home to host Rhode Island College on Tuesday in a doubleheader at Toppa Field (4 p.m.).
