NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina senior pitcher Nicole Parry (Quincy, Mass.) pitched a six-hit shutout in second game to help the host Seahawks salvage a split with the visiting Gulls of Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball action at Toppa Field. Endicott (13-11, 6-4 CCC) won the opener, 1-0, behind a six-hit pitching performance from its senior ace Courtney Blake (East Islip, N.Y.) who outdueled Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass.).

Series and Streaks
Today's games marked the 41st and 42nd meeting between Salve Regina and Endicott. The Seahawks have won four of the last six, but the Gulls still lead by 20 in the all-time series (31-11). Salve Regina's season-best six-game win streak came to an end with the shutout in game one.

Three Seahawk Stars of the Day
1 – Salve Regina senior Nicole Parry (Quincy, Mass.) - struck out five and blanked the Gulls on six hits.
2 – Salve Regina junior Kelsey Boarman (No. Dighton, Mass.) - allowed just the first-inning run and then matched Blake with zeroes on the board.
3 – Salve Regina junior Lexi Soucie (No. Easton, Mass.) - led off the bottom of the fourth inning of game two with her first home run of 2016, and the first for the Seahawks at Toppa Field this year.

Key Stat of the Day
The Seahawks stranded nine runners on base in the opener including leaving the bases loaded in the third and seventh innings.

Turning Points
In game one, Casie Beauchemin (Lincoln, R.I.) led off with a single. After one out, Julia McNeill (Smithtown, N.Y.) followed with a single before a walk loaded the bases. Emily Hoffman (Malden, Mass.) grounded out to second to bring home the game's only run.

In game two, Salve Regina's lead off batters in three successive innings (second, third, and fourth) reached starter Laura Somerville (Suffield, Conn.) for base hits and scored. Emily Woznick (Sandy Hook, Conn.) doubled in the second and came home on Megan Guest's (Meriden, Conn.) two-out single. Lindsey Florent (New Bedford, Mass.) doubled in the third and came home on Kara O'Riley's (Acton, Mass.) two-out single. Soucie led off the fourth with her first homer of 2016.

Quick Hits

  • The Seahawk pitching duo of Boarman and Parry have allowed just four earned runs in their last 58 innings of work (0.48 ERA).
  • How unique is a 1-0 loss? It's only the 13th time in the history of the Salve Regina softball program (since 1995), but the second time this season (April 8 at Eastern Conn. St. in game one).
  • Teams matched hit totals on the day, both with 13.
  • Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.) went 3-for-3 in the opener from the bottom of the order; Florent flourished in the top of the order in game two, going 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
  • Julia McNeill went 3-for-3 in the opener for the Gulls, but was cut down at the plate on a solid play by Galeazzi after a grounder passed Boarman up the middle.
