Maybach reaches way back to strike out Owls; Seahawks win fifth straight

Box Score

NEWPORT, R.I. - Freshman left-hander Patrick Maybach (No. Kingstown, R.I.) struck out 10 batters and threw seven shutout innings to lead Salve Regina University baseball (10-2) to its fifth straight victory with a 7-3 decision over visiting Keene State College at Reynolds Field.

In his first outing since his collegiate debut on March 12 where he tossed a complete-game, nine-inning shutout (3-0 over Rochester Institute of Technology) including hitless ball for eight and two-thirds innings, Maybach allowed leadoff singles in three of the first four innings. He picked off two Owls (one in the fourth and another in the fifth) and did not allow a base on balls. He gave up just five hits, never more than one in any inning, and benefited from a heads-up defensive play by his classmate, Dylan Ketch (Clinton, Conn.), when the first-year outfielder fielded a hard-hit liner to right on one bounce and, after faking a catch in the air to freeze the runner at first, fired a strike to shortstop Hunter Sleeper (Arlington, Mass.) for the force at second.
