Salve Regina sweeps Suffolk in CCC twinbill in Boston

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BOSTON (April 30, 2022) - Salve Regina University sweeps Suffolk University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball doubleheader at East Boston Memorial Park Saturday afternoon, 6-1 and 7-2, to finish April with a four-game win streak.

Suffolk jolted out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Savannah Scripter stepped to the plate and ripped a home run to dead center field with two outs to get the home team on the scoreboard first.

The visiting Seahawks started their scoring of six unanswered in the top of the third. Drew Ceppetelli led things off with an infield single on a hard-hit ball back up the middle and was pushed to second on a Christina Braid walk. Following a double-steal, Maddie Capetta knocked the leadoff batter across on a fielder's choice.

The Rams were not able to answer Maddy Fluke's pitching in the bottom half of the inning, allowing Salve Regina to continue its offensive momentum in the fourth.

With the bases loaded and no outs recorded, Ceppetelli slapped a single through the left side, knocking in Morganti Bello, giving the Seahawks their first lead of the game. Suffolk's starter Jenny Jacob struck Braid out looking to get out of the bases-loaded jam, which left three stranded and the score at 2-1.

Francesca Rubino led off the fifth inning with an infield single and was pushed to third when Sophia Strazza made it to second base due to a Lily Gustafson error.

Bello then singled through the left side, bringing in two runs due to a Newcomb error in left field, making it 4-1, ending Jacob's day in the circle and beginning Ashlyn Conley's outing.

On a Kendall Duprey stolen base attempt, the pickoff effort was thrown into center field, allowing Bello to score from second.

The Seahawks pushed their sixth and final run across the plate on a Nikki Vanelli sacrifice fly to center field, with Duprey coming in to score.

Jaycee Garrigan closed the door on the Rams' rally attempts over the final two innings to seal the 6-1 victory.

  • Conley gave up one run on two hits and had one strikeout in 2.2 innings of work.
  • Fluke advanced to 2-3 with the win after putting together a one-run, two-hit, one-walk, three-strikeout effort over 5.0 innings.
  • Garrigan provided two innings of scoreless relief. She limited the Rams to two hits and sat down two Suffolk batters.

  • Scripter logged her fourth long ball of the year and eighth of her collegiate career.

Suffolk opened the scoring in the bottom of the first behind a pair of doubles. Jolie Quintana led off with a two-bagger to right and three batters later Ally Cifaratta knocked a double of her own to left to bring Quintana in.

The host pushed the advantage in the second inning thanks to a leadoff single from Jenny Jacob that put her in position to score all the way from first on a throwing error by the Seahawks third baseman to make the score 2-0 through two innings.

That's the only offense the blue-and-gold managed to put together as Alex Kelly twirled a shutout the rest of the way to secure the win for the visitors.

All of Salve Regina's scoring came over the sixth and seventh.

The Seahawks opened the sixth with a single from Drew Ceppetelli followed by a double to right center courtesy of Lauren Packer that put the pair in scoring position. Christina Braid brought the two runners' home with a single down the right field line to even the score at 2-2.

The offense for the Seahawks saw the first three batters of the seventh get on to load the bases to set up an RBI single to left field for Cepetelli to break the tie.

A fielder's choice brought in another before Maddie Capetti broke the game open with the bases loaded after a three RBI double to the left center wall made the score 7-2.

Suffolk went down in order in the seventh to end the game giving Kelly a complete game and a win.
