Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. -- The Seahawks clobbered the Colonels of Curry College 13-2 on Tuesday at Reynolds Field in dominant and efficient fashion.
After a tough stretch of games about three weeks ago that found the Seahawks losing three in a row at the beginning of April, Salve has found their groove winning five in a row as they approach the end of the season in May.
How about a six-run first inning to kick things off? The home side batted around in the first frame and saw many players help get runs across the plate in inning one. The Seahawks managed twelve plate appearances in the first inning; all nine Salve hitters reached base and forced an early pitching change for Curry after just 0.1 IP. Christian Homa (Fairfield, Conn.) and Brady Smolinski (North Grafton, Mass.) each had an RBI-hit in the first frame that contributed to an early 6-0 lead. Matt D'Amato (Midland Park, N.J.) scored two runs in the first frame and managed an RBI. Homa (3-4, HR, 6 RBI) and D'Amato (1-2, 3 R, 2 RBI) sit at No.1 and No. 2 respectively in the CCC for batting average. Homa sits at .437 and D'Amato is close behind at .424.
The Seahawks pitching was just as strong as the bats and kept the Colonels lineup quiet all afternoon. Nick Callano (Ocean, N.J.) notched his third win of the year through four dominant innings of work. Callano was perfect through four innings, retiring twelve straight hitters and striking out four.
