Box Score MIDDELTOWN, R.I. -- Salve Regina field hockey was defeated 8-1 by former conference foe, Roger Williams University, Tuesday night under the lights at Gaudet field. Although the Seahawks tried to keep pace with the Hawks speed of play, the only team goal came in the fourth period from junior forward Kira Spedden.

All-Time Series: The Seahawks have a 14-5 win-loss record against the Hawks. The teams first met in 2013 and last played in 2022 when Roger Williams won 0-3.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Roger Williams immediately kept the action on Salve Regina's side of the turf. Chelsea King was the first to score at 4:02 into the game and was followed by Elizabeth Duquette at 13:36, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead going into the second quarter.
- Period two was a four-point quarter for the Hawks with two goals from Chelsea King, one from Maddy Monahan and one from Hannah Timbrouck. Roger Williams had a six-point advantage at the half.
- The Seahawks adjusted their strategy and slowed the Hawks progress, limiting them to a singular goal by Abigail Stevens in the third period. Salve Regina forced Roger Williams to turn the ball over and got in some key shots on net that they were missing in the first half.
- Hawks' Lauren Costanzo brought the score to 8-0 at 55:56 into the game, but the Seahawks saw the opportunity and got themselves on the board with a goal from Kira Spedden, assisted by Shannon Kennedy to close out the game 8-1.
- Goalie, Bryn Protheroe made a total of 17 saves for Salve Regina.
COACH THOUGHTS:
"Early in the game we allowed RWU to dictate play and fell behind quickly," said head coach Jennifer Foster. "We made some adjustments in the second half that gave our offense a shot, but it was too little too late. We need to continue to clean up our play and do a better job in playing a complete 60 minutes."
ON THE HORIZON:
The next contest for Salve Regina is Saturday, Sept. 23 against Smith College at 12 p.m. This will be the second NEWMAC game of the season for the Seahawks after a 5-4 win against Springfield College on Sept. 16.
