NEWPORT, R.I. (Saturday, April 13, 2024)--In NEWMAC action the Salve Regina men's lacrosse team relented 18-9 to the current No.13 Babson College Beavers on Gaudet Field. After a relatively close first half the Beavers extended their lead to 17-7 during the third quarter. 

Men's lacrosse held senior day to honor the class of 2024 before the opening faceoff. The team celebrated seniors Max Beauchamp, Liam Cooney, Jack Naglieri and Cameron Stein as well as graduate students Kieran Hughes, Brendan Treacy and Stephen McAllister before the opening faceoff.

Last matchup: The last time the Seahawks saw the Beavers on April 13, 2011, Babson won 16-12.

BREAKDOWN: 

Babson' Camden Matthews was the first to take action just over two minutes into the game but Seahawks Liam Cooney and Max Beauchamp followed up Babson's success to elevate Salve Regina ahead 2-1 with 7:21 remaining in the first quarter. Babson struck next, tying it 2-2 but Max Beauchamp got the Seahawks ahead once again with 3:47 to go in the first period. After 15 minutes it was a 5-3 game, due to the Beavers' three-point run at the end of the quarter. 

Salve Regina hung with the Beavers, although they slowly increased their lead to 8-5 in the second quarter. Liam Cooney and Chris Koltzan both found the back of the net in the second period. 

The difference maker was the third quarter. Babson's' Jared Rainville, Jacob Tauss and Luke Wang spearheaded the team's efforts. Tauss scored four times and Wang followed in behind with three. Brendan Treacy and Daniel Naglieri were able to make it past Babson's defenders, each scoring a goal in the third quarter however, Salve Regina could not thwart Babson's nine-goal fortune. 

Led by Liam Cooney and Stephen McAllister the Seahawks outscored the Beavers 2-1 in the final quarter, however the Beavers already had a sizable lead from their prosperous third quarter. The contest went in the books as a 19-9 win for Babson College. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

• Liam Cooney achieved a hat trick. 
• William Kein and Andrew Hazard collectively made 23 saves in 41 shots on net.
• Babson's Alex Fascilla made 15 saves
• The Seahawks went 11 -31 off the faceoff.

The next game for the Seahawks will take place on Saturday, April 20, at 12 p.m. against Springfield College at the Pride's Stagg Field.
