NEWPORT, R.I. (Wednesday, April 24, 2024) - For the second time in a home game this season, Salve Regina University baseball establishes a single-game run record in a decisive victory. On Wednesday, March 20, in their first game at Reynolds Field in 2024, the Seahawks defeated Mitchell College, 27-2. Today, the #7 Seahawks (26-5, 10-2 NEWMAC) scored six runs in the first and six times in eight at bats to raise the program record by one in a 28-10 win against visiting Worcester State University in non-league action at Reynolds Field.

The win marked the third time this season Salve Regina has scored 20 or more runs in a game, matching the same number of occurrences in 2023 and 1995. The previous run record before the two explosions this season was 26 -- reached twice before -- a 26-5 win over Colby-Sawyer College in on March 25, 1995, at Gaudet Field in Middletown, Rhode Island, and a 26-10 win over Emerson College on March 10, 2010, in Auburndale, Florida.

Seven different Seahawks had multiple RBI led by four apiece from Evan O'Rourke (Arlington, Mass.) and Michael Breen (Auburn, Mass.). Gianfranco Messina (Cranston, R.I.) and Thomas Whitlock (Sherborn, Mass.) both had bases-clearing doubles for three runs driven in apiece.  Hunter Yaworski (Brooklyn, Conn.) went 2-for-2 off the bench including a three-run homer that clinched the run record in the seventh.

Graduate student Matt D'Amato (Midland Park, N.J.), who a day earlier had a three-run walk-off homer for his 198th career hit, had singles in the third and fourth innings, the latter driving in two runs for a 13-0 Seahawks lead and helping the outfielder become the eighth player in school history to join the 200-hit club.

Freshman Luis Ortiz (East Boston, Mass.) made his first career start and struck out six over four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, to improve to 2-0 on the year.
