Seahawks sweep Lions on Senior Day

#13/#14 Salve Regina needs just 14 frames to complete sweep; Carozza/DeRienzo/Arrigo combine for no-hitter in nightcap

NEWPORT, R.I. (Sunday, April 27, 2025) -- #13/#14 Salve Regina University baseball celebrated its 11 seniors in style on Sunday, April 27, 2025, with a NEWMAC doubleheader sweep over visiting Emerson College, 13-1 and 10-0, both in seven innings on Reynolds Field in Newport.

The Seahawks (25-7, 11-3 NEWMAC) ran their win streak to 10 games as they honored the 11 senior members in a pre-game ceremony - Matthew Neal (#6), Brady Smolinski (#7), Carter Grimm (#10), Hunter Yaworski (#17), Andrew Wertz (#18), Peyton Heisner (#27), Declan O'Hara (#28), Nick Callano (#30), Jake Mitchell (#33), Jason Arrigo (#36), Brody Valentine (#38).

Both Seahawk starting pitchers -- Brayden Clark (W, 8-2) and Kyle Carozza (W, 6-0) -- worked five innings apiece and had a pair of relievers follow in the sixth and seventh innings. Brody Valentine and Peyton Heisner finished in Game 1, while Joe DeRienzo and Jason Arrigo got the final six outs in Game Two to record a combined no-hitter.

History: Today marks the sixth and seventh meetings on the baseball diamond between Salve Regina and Emerson. The Seahawks (7-0 in the all-time series) have outscored the Lions, 105-11, in their seven meetings including last year's doubleheader sweep in Boston (20-0 and 7-0). Emerson scored 10 of its runs in one game, a 26-10 loss on March 10, 2010, in Auburndale, Florida. The first two meetings were 31 years ago, won by Salve Regina on Reynolds Field in Newport, 10-0 and 19-0.
