SERIES HISTORY
  • Salve Regina earned its first win ever against MIT in baseball before completing a sweep in Newport last year.
  • The Engineers won the first meeting in 1989, then swept two in Tampa, Florida, in 2005. Then in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 2012, the Engineers won 14-2.
  • Last year was the first ever visit to Newport for an MIT baseball team. Salve Regina won both in seven-inning Mercy Rule decisions, 16-6 and 11-0.
POSTSEASON HISTORY
  • Sunday will be the first time the Seahawks and Engineers meet in the NEWMAC baseball playoffs.
LAST MEETINGS
  • C.J. McCarthy, Zev Moore, and Reed Tubbs all homered in a 13-3 seven-inning victory for MIT over Salve Regina on Friday, March 28.
  • Mason Estrada struck out six in four innings and did not allow an earned run.
  • The Seahawks took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning of Game Two before it was suspended due to an umpire illness.
  • When Salve Regina and MIT resumed the contest on April 9, Kyle Carozza picked up where he left off after starting the game on March 28, pitching 7.0 innings, giving up no earned runs and striking out nine.
  • Brandon Grover led the Seahawk offense with three base hits including a double.
  • Four other Seahawks had multi-hit game -- Nate Ruehs, Christian Homa, Shea Donovan, Evan O'Rourke.
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
  • Salve Regina (31-7, 13-3 NEWMAC) earned the top seed and is led offensively by Grady Schopps and Wil McCarthy, who are batting .420 and .424, respectively.
  • On the mound, Brayden Clark tops the NEWMAC with 10 wins and is third with a 1.94 ERA.
  • The Seahawks have the NEWMAC's lowest ERA at 2.62, most strikeouts at 387 (in 326.1 innings) and share the second-most saves with Wheaton (10).
  • Evan O'Rourke leads the Seahawks in runs (42), hits (52), and RBI (39).
  • O'Rourke (17) and Christian Homa (16) are the top two Seahawks in extra-base hits; Homa has a dozen doubles, two triples, and two home runs.
  • Shane Williams, Evan O'Rourke, and Tyler Petrosino share the Seahawk stolen base lead with 12.
  • Less than a year removed from shattering the program's single-season saves mark (11), Kyle Carozza has made 12 starts in 2025 with a 6-0 record and 2.83 ERA.
  • Andrew Wertz leads the team in appearances (19) and has posted seven saves with an ERA under 1.00 (0.41) and 32 strikeouts in 22 innings.
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
  • Teddy Schoenfeld had six hits in two wins yesterday and became the Engineers' all-time hits leader.
  • Against Wheaton yesterday, all nine batters in MIT's starting nine either had a hit or an RBI, including the first eight hitters all registering a base hit.
  • C.J. McCarthy's only hit of the day proved to be the most important, a two-run homer to give the Engineers the victory.
  • Zev Moore's .671 slugging percentage ranks second in the NEWMAC.
  • Mason Estrada ranks second in the league in ERA (1.93) and strikeouts (66), the latter behind Brayden Clark's 104 Ks.
STREAKING INTO THE POSTSEASON
  • The Seahawks have won 16 consecutive games since falling, 9-7, to Clark University at home on Tuesday, April 8.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
  • 2-for-2. Salve Regina has two complete seasons in the NEWMAC and has finished first in the regular season both times.
  • 2-to-15. Salve Regina has spent the entire season ranked in the Top 15 on D3baseball.com; currently ranked at No. 10 during Week 10.
  • The Seahawks were ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation (Pre-season through Week 2).
ON DECK
  • And then there were two. Salve Regina needs just one win to earn its first NEWMAC championship. The Engineers need to take two today to capture their fourth title and first since 2019. Sunday's champion earns the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Dvision III Championships.
