NEWPORT, R.I.-- The Salve Regina University sailing team won the 2026 New England Dinghy Tournament at home this past Saturday, securing a berth in the Open NEISA Fleet Race Championship's Coast Guard Alumni Bowl, hosted by Brown University on April 18–19, 2026.
Conditions were shifty throughout the day, with a north breeze that gradually shifted east and created unpredictable pressure near the top mark as wind funneled off Ida Lewis and New York Yacht Club. The breeze built steadily before settling at 12–15 knots with periodic gusts above that. An ebb tide early in the day led to congestion at the windward mark.
Tyler Winowiecki '27,

Salve Regina took the regatta with 63 points, followed by Mass Maritime in second with 89 and the University of New Hampshire in third with 111.
This marks Salve's most regatta wins in a single season (3) since spring 2022, when the team won four.

"It was a great team effort this weekend by the Seahawks," said assistant sailing coach
Nick Johnstone. "We had a heavy focus on boat speed in practice this past week, especially off the line, which paid dividends in the challenging conditions presented on Saturday in Brenton Cove."
