Monks blank Seahawks in Columbus Day field hockey action

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Four different Monks scored goals as Saint Joseph's College of Maine field hockey defeated Salve Regina University, 4-0, in non-league action on the turf at Gaudet Field in Middletown.

 

Senior forward Courtney Rague [Old Orchard Beach, Maine] scored the first goal, her sixth of the season, just over four minutes into the game. She assisted on the next goal by senior defender Alyssa Dunn [Standish, Maine] 14 minutes later.Salve Regina (2-11) had only one shot in the first half and doubled that output in the second half, but none on goal.

 

"Today we were not an offensive threat," said Seahawk head coach Jen Eldridge. "Our defense kept us in the game, but we didn't execute when we had the opportunity."

 

Eldridge praised the defensive efforts of senior Jillian Stanley [Watertown, Conn.] and reserve goalie Helen Bohnenberger [East Falmouth, Mass.] who entered the game late in the first half.

 

St. Joseph's (8-3) added two late goals from junior forward Sarah Bartell [Exeter, N.H.] and junior defender Olivia Tourangeau [Old Orchard Beach, Maine]. Salve Regina junior goalie Natalie Balletta [Leominster, Mass.] made four saves in the first while her counterpart Meaghan Johnson [Portland, Maine] went untested in net.

 

The Seahawks return to The Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Tuesday in a home match against Gordon College on the Lawrence Avenue field.
