Box Score Weston, Mass. - The Regis College field hockey team was defeated by Salve Regina University Wednesday night by the score of 3-1. The Pride move to 4-8 overall on the season and 1-3 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Seahawks move to 2-10 overall on the season and 1-4 in TCCC play.
The Seahawks were able to get on the scoreboard first when Lisa Bucci (Irvington, N.Y.) was able to put a shot past the Pride's defense. The goal put the Seahawks up by one, but they did not hold this lead long. The Pride's Caroline Roche (Hanover, Mass.) was able to convert a rebound pass from Candace Ferry (Malden, Mass.) and evened the score 1-1. Both teams continued to play aggressive defense and entered halftime tied for the lead.
In the second period, the Pride were led by freshman goalkeeper Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass.) who tallied 14 saves on the game. For the Seahawks, Bucci was able to convert another shot in front of the net for a goal. This put the Seahawks up 2-1. The Pride continued to press the ball in the Seahawks offensive zone. Freshman Christine O'Toole (Wareham, Mass. /Wareham) was able to rifle off a few quick shots on net, but the Seahawks Helen Bohenberger (East Falmouth, Mass.) was able to make the save. The Seahawks made one more offensive attack towards the end of the game with Sarah Bambury (Fairport, N.Y.) scoring the game's final goal.
The Pride are set to play the University of New England Saturday (Oct. 9) at 1:00 pm. The Seahawks next matchup is against Saint Joseph's Colleg of Maine on Monday at 1:00 pm.
