MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Senior Michaela Franey (York, Maine) scored four goals to lead the University of New England to a 5-2 win over Salve Regina University in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) field hockey action Saturday evening at Gaudet Field.

Junior Michelle Oswald (Jay, Maine) also scored for the Nor'easters, who moved to 5-4 all-time against Salve Regina. Juniors Nikki Schlegel (Kennebunkport, Maine) and Samantha Dalton (Falmouth, Mass.) scored for the Seahawks (0-7, 0-2 TCCC), who were outshot 22-18 on the evening.

UNE opened the scoring at 14:05 when senior Franey fired a shot past junior goalkeeper Natalie Balletta (Leominster, Mass.). The Nor'easters stretched the lead to 2-0 when Oswald scored off a pass from classmate Bree Tupper (Winthrop, Maine) at 23:55.

The Seahawks cut the deficit in half at 2-1 on Schlegel's first goal of the season. Freshman Kristen Nazzarese (Ringwood, N.J.) sent a pass over to Schlegel, who buried the ball in the back of the cage.

In the second half, the Nor'easters (3-3, 1-1 TCCC) stretched their lead to 3-1 when Franey broke down the left side of the field and beat Balletta with a low shot inside the right post. She picked up the hat trick just 59 seconds later and added her fourth tally of the evening off a pass from freshman Hannah Tavella (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) at 56:47.

Senior Ayla Nelson (Auburn, Mass.) made 14 saves to even her record at 3-3 on the season. Balletta, meanwhile, stopped 11 Nor'Easter shots.

The Seahawks return to action on Thursday when they travel to Bridgewater State for a 4 p.m. contest. The Nor'easters play at Wheaton Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
