Box Score NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team was defeated by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in four sets on Tuesday evening in a non-conference match at the Tripp Athletic Center.
After dropping the first set, 25-20, the Corsairs rallied to take the next three 25-22, 25-23 and 25-23 to capture their second straight victory and avenge a 3-0 loss last season to the Seahawks.
The turning point in the match came when UMD trailed Salve 22-17 in the second set and reeled off eight straight points to even the match at one set apiece and steal the momentum away from the Seahawks.
Salve Regina was led by junior Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) who had a team-high nine kills to go along with 18 digs and a service ace. Sophomore Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) added eight kills and 15 digs, while Katelyn Beauregard (Dartmouth, Mass.) dished-out a team-best 27 assists. Senior Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) also played well, collecting 31 digs while receiving 25 serves without making an error.
For the second straight contest senior setter Jess Goncalves (New Bedford, Mass.) led the Corsairs with 38 assists and two kills. Freshman outside hitter Stephanie Antoine (New Bedford, Mass.) once again led UMD with 19 kills, while junior Tahirah Gibson (Norwood, Mass.) added 11 kills.
Defensively, Linsay Boulay (Swansea, Mass.) led the Corsairs with 18 digs and 20 serve receptions, while Goncalves and Ruest each added 12 digs.
The Corsairs improved to 2-0 with the victory, while the Seahawks dropped to 2-2 with the defeat.. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Eastern Nazarene and Regis Friday on the first day of the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. Salve Regina will play Trinity at the Wesleyan Invitational Friday.
